First, you need to understand what makes Unflavoured Re-Lyte different from the flavoured Re-Lyte varieties and one-of-a-kind in the world of hydration mixes. Then, it should be pretty easy to tell whether you’re the next Unflavoured Re-Lyte superfan.
Let’s take a deep dive into all things Unflavoured Re-Lyte.
What’s the Difference Between Flavoured and Unflavoured Re-Lyte?
Unflavoured and flavoured Re-Lyte both contain a healthy blend of essential electrolytes, including sodium and chloride from our unrefined, ancient sea salt, Real Salt. But there are important differences between the two. Here’s what sets Unflavoured Re-Lyte apart from the flavoured varieties:
#1- It doesn’t contain stevia or natural flavours. Flavoured Re-Lyte contains stevia to give it a mild hint of sweetness and natural flavours extracted from fruit. Unflavoured doesn’t contain either of these ingredients, and this is why some people prefer it. Redmond know there are folks out there who don’t like the taste of stevia or have stevia intolerances. They also know there are people who prefer to avoid natural flavours. If you fall into either of these camps, Unflavoured Re-Lyte is a good choice for you.
#2- It’s unflavoured (but not flavourless). Redmond don’t add any flavouring agents to Unflavoured Re-Lyte, but that doesn’t mean it’s flavourless. Since it contains Real Salt, Unflavored Re-Lyte has a very salty flavor. Some people love it, some people grow to love it, and other people don’t like it. If you have strong feelings about salty flavours, just keep that in mind before trying it. Try our individual sachets of each of the different flavours if you want to each first.
#3- It doesn’t contain citric acid, coconut water powder, or calcium. Redmond wanted to keep Unflavoured Re-Lyte as simple and customisable as possible, so Redmond left out a few other ingredients that you will find in the flavored varieties: citric acid, coconut water powder, and calcium.
Here's why:
- Citric acid has a tangy, citrusy flavour that’s important to the flavour profile of the flavoured varieties but isn’t necessary in Unflavoured Re-Lyte.
- Coconut is an allergen for some people, so by leaving coconut water powder out of Unflavoured Re-Lyte they are able to offer a healthy hydration option for those folks.
- We know some people like taking supplemental calcium and other people don’t. Unflavoured Re-Lyte is a great choice for people who aren’t interested in taking calcium supplements or prefer a different type of calcium than what is used in Re-Lyte.
How Is Unflavoured Re-Lyte Different From Other Hydration Mixes?
All of the Re-Lyte products are unique in the hydration mix world for a few reasons. First, they contain Real Salt, Redmond's unrefined, ancient sea salt.
Many hydration mixes use processed table salt that’s stripped of healthy minerals. Redmond leave Real Salt in its natural state, with 60+ trace minerals that support your body.
There are also a lot of hydration mixes that don’t contain enough sodium to restore what you lose through sweat. Thanks to the Real Salt in Re-Lyte, it’s able to replenish the sodium your body needs to feel and function well.
Some hydration mixes include sugar, artificial sweeteners, or artificial flavours. Redmond don’t add any sweeteners or flavours to Unflavoured Re-Lyte, which makes it a great choice for people who want to hydrate without calories, blood sugar spikes, or artificial ingredients.
How Is Unflavoured Re-Lyte Different From Adding Real Salt to Water?
Real Salt is an important ingredient and source of electrolytes in Unflavoured Re-Lyte. But Redmond add essential electrolytes from other sources as well. Unflavoured Re-Lyte also contains potassium citrate and a 50/50 blend of magnesium malate and magnesium glycinate. If you want to replenish more than just your sodium and chloride levels, Redmond recommend choosing Unflavored Re-Lyte rather than only adding Real Salt to a glass of water.
Creative Ways to Drink Your Unflavored Re-Lyte
If you love the fact that Unflavoured Re-Lyte contains no calories and fewer ingredients than the flavoured varieties, but you’d prefer to add a splash of flavour to this salty blend, we have good news. There are plenty of simple and delicious ways to jazz up your Unflavoured Re-Lyte. Here are a few of our favorites:
- Make a DIY lemon-lime electrolyte cocktail by adding fresh lemon and lime juice. You can even add a hint of honey or another sweetener if you’d like.
- Add it to a delicious smoothie. Here’s Redmomd's favourite recipe.
- Make a healthy, hydrating hot cocoa like this one.
- Add it to a cup of coffee
- Mix it in your favorite juice
Additional Information
Redmond Re-Lyte® is a refreshing, effective electrolyte mix that only contains the cleanest ingredients. Through a perfectly balanced blend of micronutrients, Re-Lyte keeps your cells and muscles optimally hydrated so you feel your best.
How much Re- Lyte is too much?
Redmond recommend sticking to 1 to 3 servings per day of Re-Lyte depending on your body and lifestyle. How much you exercise, the climate you live in, if you have health issues that cause vomiting or diarrhea, if you're pregnant or nursing, along with a variety of other factors will all influence whether your electrolyte needs fall on the higher or lower end of that spectrum.
But you may still be wondering: If Re-Lyte's so healthy, why do I have to limit how much I take?
Well, it is possible to get too many electrolytes, and Redmond prefer to err on the side of caution, since their products contain a generous dose of them, especially sodium.
At this point, there is no Tolerable Upper Intake Level (UL) set for sodium because there's very little evidence that sodium causes toxicity in healthy people even at very high doses. All of the other electrolytes in Re-Lyte fall within safe and healthy ranges as long as you stick to the 1-3 servings per day guideline as well.
But regardless of any electrolyte recommendations Redmond or anyone else gives you, you should also pay attention to the signs your body gives you. If you're not getting enough electrolytes, you may experience things like headaches, dizziness, and fatigue. If you're getting too many, you may develop a stomach ache and/or diarrhea.
The colour of your urine can be a sign that you need more electrolytes too. If your urine is completely clear, it may mean that you're drinking too much water without enough electrolytes to balance it out. Salt cravings could also be a sign you're low in sodium. Your body has a finely tuned salt thermostat that's developed over years and years of evolution to make you crave salt when you need it and be turned off by salt when you don't.
The truth is, electrolyte intake—and hydration in general—aren't things you can issue one-size-fits-all guidelines for. Everybody and every body is different.
Ingredients per 1 scoop/ serving size: Sodium 1000mg, Potassium (as potassium citrate) 500mg, Chloride 1585mg, Magnesium (as magnesium Malate, Magnesium Glycinate) 60mg and trace minerals
Other Ingredients: Ancient sea salt (Redmond Real Salt) as above

Directions: Add one level scoop of Re-Lyte to 16-18oz (473ml-532ml) of cold water, shake or mix well.
PRO-TIP, once you've added the water, let it sit for at least 30 seconds, then shake again for another 10 seconds to fully dissolve. You might notice some leftover sediment that hasn't dissolved, that's just trace minerals that won't dissolve in water, but are safe and beneficial to consume. We all have different hydration needs, so please feel free to add more or less water.
